A Journey Through Nature, Heritage, and Tradition
30 girl students from Government Degree College Kargil returned back home after successfully concluding 9-days educational cum cultural experiences. This tour proved a comprehensive educational and cultural exposure tour through the picturesque state of Kerala, from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram. This immersive tour offered participants a unique blend of nature, heritage, history, and local traditions, showcasing Kerala's rich cultural fabric and educational potential.
The journey began with flag off by worthy Administrative Secretary Higher Education UT Ladakh Madam Banu Prabha(IAS) from Leh towards Kochi on 11th February 2026.
The group landed Kochi airport late evening on the same day. The Gateway to Kerala The journey began in Kochi, a city that blends old-world charm with modern vibrance. Participants explored the historic Fort Kochi area, visited the historic Church of St. Francis built by Vasco da Gama back in 1503,the iconic Chinese fishing nets, the historic Dutch Palace and it’s artefacts, the Jewish town and Synagogue. The city offers rich insights into the Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonial influences on Kerala.
After exploring Kochi the group travelled to Munnar, the Hills of Serenity, known for its breathtaking tea gardens and scenic landscapes. Munnar’s lush hills, Rose garden, Tea plantations and tea processing Factory provided the perfect backdrop for learning about sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and Kerala’s eco-tourism initiatives.
After two-night stay at Munnar, the group proceeded to Thekkady – A Wildlife Haven The journey continues to Thekkady, home to the renowned Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Here, participants had the opportunity to take a boat ride on Periyar Lake, observe elephants and other wildlife in their natural habitat, and explore Kerala’s conservation efforts. Educational workshops on wildlife conservation and eco-tourism will be offered during the stay. Besides, a live show of classical Kathakkali Dance and Keralite traditional Martial arts .
