SMARTs Investor Awareness Program held at GDC Kargil

Department of Commerce Government Degree College Kargil organized SMARTs Investor Awareness Program in collaboration with Securities and Exchange Board of India(SEBI) and NSDL. The program is aimed to make students knowledgeable about savings, investments and return.
Mr. Shabir Hussain(AP Commerce) and program convener highlighted the key features of this awareness program.
Mr. Sabzar Ahmed, Resource person from SEBI delivered a technical presentation session regarding the processes to access SEBI and DEMAT account for investors who are beginners.
Mr. Sabzar's presentation proved quite engaging and interactive for the students and the students learnt alot from the session regarding savings, smart investment and profitable returns.He said that 93% of Indian population is still not able to invest their savings due to lack of awareness. He urged the audience to switch their investment policies from traditional to SMART i.e, Specific, Measurable, Achievable,
Mr. Sabzar highlighted the importance of Income, Mandatory outflows, expenses and savings. He also mentioned the types of products of investment, product features, asset allocation to encourage students for investing in manageable risk areas.
He emphasised that a person should start investment right from 12 years of his/her age to become a smart investor in life. He said investment is a long term process to gain returns and achieving financial freedom.
The event also highlighted “Dharoohar”, SEBI’s investor awareness campaign, and the upcoming National Financial Literacy Quiz 2025, organised by SEBI in collaboration with NISM, to promote financial knowledge among students and the youth.
The key highlights of this awareness event was, why do we invest? Return potential, why to invest in securities? Diversification of portfolio, tax benefits, Focusing on mutual funds, precautions for investors, investors protection and complaint Redressal etc.
Principal Madam Disket Angmo appreciated the efforts of key collaborators and Department of Commerce for organising such highly beneficial awareness programs in the college.
