One day Hands on training and workshop on UV Visisble spectroscopy, through DBT Star college scheme.

March 31, 2026 Department of Biochemistry Acedemic
The Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology conducted a one-day hands-on training and workshop on 30th March 2026. The programme commenced with the registration of participants, followed by a welcome address by the Programme Organizer, Mr. Mohd Raza, Assistant Professor in Biotechnology.
The first technical session began with an expert lecture delivered by Dr. Irfan Hussain, Assistant Professor in Biochemistry. He explained the theoretical aspects of UV-Visible Spectroscopy, covering important topics such as the principle, construction, working, types and applications of UV-Visible Spectroscopy.
The second technical session included a laboratory session which started at around 12:15 PM. During this session, students were first demonstrated how to use the UV-Visible spectrophotometer and were introduced to the functioning of the equipment.
After lunch, the third technical session was conducted by Dr. Irfan Hussain, who guided the students in preparing standard solutions, taking optical density (OD) readings, and using UV-Visible spectral profiles. He also guided the students on the use of Origin software for UV-Visible spectroscopy, data analysis and interpretation of plots. Subsequently, each group of students were provided with standard samples and assigned the task of recording absorbance using a UV-Visible spectrophotometer and interpreting the results. Purified Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) was used as the standard protein sample for the experiment.
After the technical sessions, feedback performas were distributed among the participants to collect their feedback regarding the programme. Around 30 participants from institutions such as the School of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, UoL and Government Degree College Kargil participated in the workshop.
In the valedictory session, the Principal of the college, Prof. Disket Angmo, highlighted the importance of hands-on training and practical sessions in students’ academic careers and in the development of scientific temper.
