The programme was conducted by Mr. Mohd Raza, Assistant Professor in Biotechnology, as the subject expert. The session began early in the morning with an introductory lecture on microbial culture techniques and understanding microbial classification through staining processes. This was followed by a hands-on training session in which students prepared microbial culture media for culturing the DH5 alpha strain of E. coli and learned sterilization techniques. During this time, students also performed Gram staining to classify microbes as Gram-positive or Gram-negative.
Post-lunch, the students learned about plate preparation for solid agar media and inoculated microbial cells on freshly prepared plates using streaking and spreading methods.
Around 30 students participated in the programme and appreciated the efforts of the faculty in organizing such a fruitful training programme. The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates followed by a vote of thanks by the organizers.
The organizers expressed their gratitude to the supporting faculty members, including Dr. Ishfaq Mir (Department of Biotechnology), Dr. Irfan (Department of Biochemistry), Dr. Kunzes Dolma (Department of Biotechnology), and Ms. Siddiqa Banoo (Lab Assistant) for their support in conducting the programme.
Special thanks were extended to the Principal of the College, Prof. Disket Angmo, and Nodal Officer, Sankoo Campus, Dr. Salim Ahmad, for their exceptional support and cooperation in organizing the programme.
The organizers also thanked the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi, and Head, DBT Star College Programme, Dr. Garima Gupta, for providing financial assistance to GDC Kargil under the DBT Star College Scheme.
