GDC Kargil Conducts 3-Day Scientific Exposure cum Study Tour to Kashmir under DBT Star College Scheme

Government Degree College Kargil successfully conducted a three-day Scientific Exposure cum Study Tour, from 3rd to 5th Novemebr 2025 ,for students from various streams of Biological Sciences under the DBT Star College Scheme, supported by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.

On the first day, the students visited the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, where they explored the Watson and Crick Centre for Molecular Medicine. The visit included an inspiring interaction with Dr. Muzaffar, who shared insights into his scientific journey and encouraged students to pursue research as a career. He also explained the nature of work carried out in his laboratory and demonstrated the technique of animal cell culture.

The students then visited the Department of Food Technology at IUST, where Dr. Fayaz Ahmad delivered an informative session on the food processing industry. He highlighted the potential of Ladakh in processing Seabuckthorn and Apricot-based products, emphasizing opportunities for entrepreneurship in these sectors.

At the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (CIED), IUST, Dr. Parvez A. Mir underscored the importance of skill-based education and urged students to become job creators rather than job seekers. He advised them to acquire at least one new skill every year. Later, the students visited the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), where they were given live demonstrations of 3D model printing, fiber laser engraving, and C4I4 technologies. The team at CIED also welcomed the students for short-term internships in the future.

On the second day, the students visited the CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Srinagar Branch, where they toured various laboratories, including Cancer Pharmacology, Epigenetics, Plant Phytochemistry, and Microbiology. Special thanks were extended to Prof. Disket Angmo, Principal, GDC Kargil, and Dr. Garima Gupta, Coordinator, DBT Star College Scheme, DBT New Delhi for their continuous support for the tour.
