The Department of Travel & Tourism Management, Government Degree College Kargil, celebrated World Tourism Day 2025 on Saturday 27th September, with great enthusiasm and participation from students, faculty, and esteemed guests. The event commenced at 11:00 AM with a formal opening and continued until 2:00 PM, featuring a wide range of cultural, academic, and interactive activities that reflected the significance of tourism in today’s world.
The program began with a Welcome Speech by Dr. Manzoor Nabi Naikoo, Head of the Department of Tourism, GDC Kargil, who highlighted the objectives of celebrating World Tourism Day and emphasized the role of students in promoting sustainable and responsible tourism.
This was followed by a soulful Tarana performed by the 5th Semester Girls (Tourism Students), setting a patriotic and cultural tone for the celebration. The audience was then addressed by Prof. Diskit Angmo, Principal, GDC Kargil, who shared valuable insights on the importance of tourism as a driver of socio-economic development in Ladakh.
Adding a literary flavor, Cho Cho Fatima presented a Shayari, which was well-received by the audience. The highlight of the program was the Keynote Speech delivered by Mr. Daniel Noel Goveas, General Manager, Hotel The Kargil, who elaborated on the opportunities and challenges in the hospitality industry and inspired students to build meaningful careers in tourism and hospitality.
Further enriching the event, students presented creative works, including a presentation by Kaneez Fatima, a documentary by Hassanain, and a melodious song by Mohammad Hussain.
A special moment of the day was the Virtual Address by Dr. Ashaq Hussain Najar, HOD, Dept. of Tourism Studies, Central University of Kashmir, who shared academic perspectives and research-based insights on tourism development, further motivating the students.
The program also included a variety of cultural performances, such as a dance by 1st Semester Girls Group, another Shayari by Ummi Kulsum, a Qasida performance by 5th Semester Boys, and a thoughtful speech by Kaneez Fatima (5th Sem).
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks.
